Sniffer dog sport aims to provide a fun sport for dogs and their people. It will encourage them to work with you, as a team, complementing each other’s skills.
Sniffer dog sport:
- is suitable for dogs of any age and breed.
- offers adolescent dogs the incentive to focus and concentrate.
- gives ‘busy’ dogs a job they can do.
- is challenging, having different levels at which dog and owner can compete.
The object of the sport is to search and find various articles, for which the dogs are rewarded when successful.
The dogs are given a designated search area. Each dog starts with 15 points and has 15 minutes to complete the search. During this time the dog must find the correct article and ‘indicate’ it to the handler. One point is deducted for each minute taken on the search. Dogs finding all the correct articles within the time limit are awarded a Certificate of Achievement.
